About Pernera

Pernera is a small yet pretty harbour town on the eastern coast of Cyprus. It radiates a relaxed and easy-going atmosphere, so typical of the Mediterranean. The new floodlit boardwalk and coastal path means Protaras is now less than a 20-minute ocean-side stroll away from Pernera, day or night Pernera is an area on the east coast of Cyprus situated between the well known tourist destination of Protaras and the smaller village of Kapparis. It is often combined with neighbouring Protaras especially as there is no clear distinction of where one ends and the other begins.

There’s two resorts which are linked by a beachfront walkway, popular all year round with walkers, runners and those taking a leisurely stroll to admire the sea views, the path is lit at night and suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, with a mixture of pavement and decking, with ramps alongside steps when necessary.

In less than 20 minutes you can walk between the two areas from Fig Tree Bay in Protaras to Polyxenia Beach – or longer if you stop at one of the restaurants or seating areas along the way!

Although quieter than neighbouring Protaras, Pernera still has many bars to choose from and something for a range of interests and ages. If you are looking for a quiet drink, or music and maybe a spot of karaoke you will be able to find it in Pernera.  There are several good quality restaurants to choose from with options to suit all tastes and budgets.

About  Protaras

One of my favorite locations has to be the Church of Prophet Elias. It is built on a steep cliff in the Protaras area and is visible from miles away. This chapel was built in 1984 and was built on the site of another smaller Byzantine chapel. Access to the chapel is a bit difficult as anyone who wishes to visit it has to climb 156 stairs! To which I have walked up and down on so many occasions May I add I carried one of my children in my arms and my second child in her pram, The Views are to die for especially at night.

Let Me Show You Around Skarinou

Skarinou is ideally situated between Limassol to the west, Larnaca to the east and Nicosia to the north. All approximately 30 minutes drive.. The nearest beach is a fifteen minute drive away and Larnaca airport is a 25 minute drive. The village benefits from having a large supermarket. The village of Skarinou is built at an average altitude of 190 meters above sea level and is the “heart” of Cyprus. It is on the road axis of the island that connects Nicosia, Limassol and Golden Donkeys Farm is located in Skarinou village, halfway between Larnaca and Limassol. When building it, we were based on our love and care for sustaining the Cyprus traditions. And we really wanted to help preserve the heritage of Cyprus – friendly and industrious animals, which many centuries faithfully served the Cypriots. After all, it is the Cyprus donkeys, who were the indispensable tool: they transported food and wine, they mode of transportation on the island for many centuries, it was the donkeys

that helped in the production of olive oil, turning the heavy millstones, and in the manufacture of wine, carrying grapes from mountain plantations were the primary Activities and Places of Interest.

Visit the church of Guiding Virgin Mary and the chapels of Saint George and Apostle Loucas. The ‘Environmental Information Centre of Larnaca Mountainous Areas’ – located in the village is worth a visit in order to learn more about 18 rural areas of Larnaca region (Flora, Fauna and Cultural elements).  Visit the Golden Donkeys Farm and Dipotamos Donkey Farm to enjoy a ride in nature and taste donkey milk. You can also see the Donkey milk beauty products. Go to Ktima Georgiadi to have the experience of a Greek Music night with plenty of food and wine. Skarinou taverna, Olive Restaurant, Classic Car Inn and Ktima Georgiadi are very good options of tasting Cyprus traditional food. Coffee shops are also available in the village.

Skarinou village

Right at the heart of Cyprus, 190 meters above sea level and surrounded by hills, lies the picturesque village of Skarinou. Located near three of the main towns of the island, Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca, right off the main motorway interconnecting these three towns, Skarinou combines the qualities of country life with the luxuries of life in town. Built on the side of the hill with the unique Cypriot terrain as its background, Skarinou preserves its traditional architecture. The houses resemble the old traditional stone buildings reminiscent of days passed and gone. And as with most small villages in Cyprus, Skarinous’ dominant landmark is the church of The Guiding Virgin Mary (Panagia i Odigidria) which stands proud and tall at the entrance of the village, welcoming both locals and visitors. Furthermore, the old style identity of the village remains intact with its narrow streets leading to squares and natural openings. Houses with central courtyards and heavy, big entrance doors (outer-doors known in Greek as ksoportia) are still found all over the village which is built in different levels due to the morphology of the ground.

In this small village, where architectural structure blends in with nature and modernization co-exists with tradition, culture and customs have survived through time. A walk through the village may lead you to see women embroidering or knitting in their courtyards or even making the traditional halloumi (Cypriot cheese). Do not be surprised if you are called in by these hospitable people to be treated to a homemade sweet or a cup of coffee as this is considered natural and is very common.

Limassol Promenade

The Promenade in Limassol is hugely popular with holidaymakers for its view of the sea, the sandy beaches, and the palm-coated surroundings, with the backdrop of its long and close proximity sea shore and various water parks, creates a wonderful atmosphere for adults and children of all ages. The busy streets flanking this seaside route have a unique appeal of its own; it’s packed with restaurants, cafes, English style pubs, vibrant nightclubs, and a wide range of shops selling almost everything including souvenirs and traditional sweets and delicacies. Mingling with the warm and friendly locals adds to the experience and enhances the well-being factor. Spending enjoyable hours in the boulevard is a gratifying joy, so take a stroll alongside the beach and allow yourself to delight in the agreeable ambience.

 Limassol Old Port

The way modern blends with the old in this city, is absolutely magical. The old harbor transformed into a fishing harbor and the area around it has also been completely transformed into an amazingly beautiful tourist center. The core of the beauty of the transformed old port is undoubtedly the picturesque fishing harbor. Amongst the picturesque, yet modern landscape the fishermen boats stand out. Every night they set out for fishing and return back early in the morning carrying their shift catch. The area has awakened from a long sleep and with its fresh look is all set to welcome again all those visitors as in the good old days. New shops are opening one after another and the energy of the port reminds those previous glorious times. Gastronomical and entertainment options within the brand new ‘old port’ are too many. Cafes and restaurants of every kind and taste are able to satisfy all moods.
